Major Corporations To Be Set Up In Russian Aviation Industry

The Russian space agency - Rosaviakosmos - deems it expedient to create, on the basis of integrated complexes formed earlier in the aviation industry, 6-7 major corporations of the holding type. This is said in the materials prepared for a meeting of the Russian government, which is examining the issues of restructuring and developing the aviation industry. It is planned to create 2-3 aircraft and helicopter corporations and one corporation in each of the following spheres: engine -building; onboard equipment; armaments; and aviation science. It is planned that all of them will include enterprises with various forms of ownership. The state policy in relation to aviation research centers should be linked to the general principles of reforming domestic fundamental science. Rosaviakosmos believes that it is expedient to preserve these centers in state ownership, simultaneously applying soft forms of their integration for improving the coordination of research work. On the whole, in the opinion of Rosaviakosmos, in the period until 2015, the solvent demand for the aviation technology of all types on the internal and external markets is estimated at about $2 billion annually. The forecast structure of sales is like follows: 7-10% - the state defense order; 13-15% - the internal market; and 75-80 % - the external market. In the period between 2001 and 2005, it is planned to complete the processes of the integration of developers and mass-production enterprises and create a basic core of aircraft building consisting of some 20 corporate structures. In 2006-2010, 6-7 major specialized structures of the holding type and multi-profile intersectoral structures will be formed. (kul/lio)
