On May 14th, a regular meeting of the government commission entitled to investigate the causes of the “Kursk” nuclear submarine’s crash in the Barents Sea is to take place. The meeting is aimed to finally approve a project on how to raise the sub from the sea bed. The exact time of the raising is also expected to be set. The related financial problems have reportedly been settled by now with an international consortium which includes companies of The Netherlands and Norway participating in the project. According to Georgi Tomchin, the commission’s member and a Duma deputy, only some technicalities remain, and a contract between the “Rubin” Central Design Office and the above consortium will be signed within several days.
