The Krasnoye Sormovo ship-building yards (Nizhni Novgorod) has completed work to re-equip and convert five river-sea class dry-cargo ships into oil tankers. These ships built to the order of the Volga-Flot company, have already been turned over to the customer and will be used from the beginning of navigation, said a spokesman at the press service of Krasnoye Sormovo. According to the information provided by the press service, the re-equipment and conversion of the ships took five months. The total cost of the contract is over $5 million. The tankers with the capacity of 5,000 tons each are designed to transport various petroleum product fractions. The tankers' length is 138 meters. With a 1,000 kWt engine, the ships can sail at a speed of up to 19 knots per hour. Apart from that, in the near future Krasnoye Sormovo will produce another four tankers and two barges. The enterprise is annually building up production.
