Yuri Luzhkov has been approved as chairman of the coordinating council of the Unity party and the Fatherland movement. This decision was taken at the first sitting of the coordinating council being held in Moscow at the moment. Among others, taking part in the sitting are the leaders of the two constituent organisations - Sergei Shoigu and Yuri Luzhkov. The coordinating council sitting is closed to the press. The coordinating council will take a decision on its commissions, secretariat and ad hoc group. The council will be working until a uniting congress convenes, something which is due to take place in November. This congress will work out a programme and rules of a new political party, to be formed after Unity and Fatherland get united.
