Vladimir Gusinski, a onetime tycoon from Russia accused of swindle, arrived in Israel last night. Israeli media say the notorious mogul will attend Thursday's function devoted to the Independence Day of Israel. After that, he is likely to leave for the USA. The media say that Gusinski has devised sweeping plans with regard to media-business in Israel. He has a 25-percent stock in the popular Israeli newspaper Maariv and holds shares of the Second channel of the Israeli TV. Last week, the Spanish court made a ruling not to extradite to Russia fugitive Gusinski accused of grave swindle. The Russian General Prosecutor's office charged Gusinski with large-scale money-laundering /article 174, part 3 of the Russian Criminal Code/; he faces charges of legalizing illicit incomes to the tune of 2.8bn roubles. The National Bureau of Interpol issued a new international warrant of arrest and sent it to the Interpol national offices in other countries. The previous charges of grand swindle have not been lifted either. Many local insiders believe ex-tycoon Gusinski is inclined to stay in Israel for a long time as he has dual nationality - Russian and Israeli. As is known, this country's laws place a ban on the extradition of Israeli citizens to judicial authorities of foreign states.
