The first power block of the Smolensk nuclear power station stopped

The first power block of the Smolensk Nuclear Power Station was stopped Monday at 8:45 a.m. Moscow time when the electric part of the block malfunctioned, reports the press service of the Rosenergoatom nuclear power engineering concern. The reduction of the load proceeded without problems, in accordance with the regulations. This will not affect the exploitation safety of the station, RIA was told in the press service. The radiation situation on the site of the power station and adjacent territory remains normal, with background radiation within the limits characteristic of that location, the press service said. The first power block was stopped soon after its capacity had been raised to the design figure of 1,000 mWt after five months of planned repairs this morning.
