Members of Parliament refused to discuss the situation concerning NTV

The Russian State Duma has rejected a proposal from Yabloko faction leader Grigory Yavlinsky to discuss the situation concerning NTV television following the replacement of the company's management. The proposal was rejected in a 193 to 108 vote with two abstentions. The same incident took place in the Federation Council. Valery Sudarenkov, a representative of Kaluga region in the Federation Council, proposed to discuss the situation around NTV. He complained of weak points of the labour legislation. “The situation around NTV reveals that employees in Russia are not well protected by the legislation”, he said. However his suggestion was rejected as well.
