20 tons of meat, shipped for processing to one of companies in the Siberian city of Irkutsk, has been seized. The seizure was ordered by local Chief Sanitary Inspector Daniil Minchenok. The meat, shipped from the neighbouring Republic of Tyva, may be contaminated with foot and mouth disease. Currently, the refrigerator van is sealed and placed at a special parking lot. The story with the meat presumably contaminated with foot and mouth is a rather peculiar one. The refrigerator van was originally heading from Tyva to one of the meat processing plant in Irkutsk. However, the meat, for some reason, was not accepted there. Then, the cargo’s owners offered the meat to one of small private firms. Luckily, the controversial produce had not enough time to become available to the public. In the meantime, the measures in the region were stepped up yesterday to prevent possible epidemic. Import of cattle, meat products, milk and dairy produce from Mongolia and European countries is forbidden.
