Nuclear waste already supplied to Russia

7,500 tons of nuclear waste from Taiwan is to be shipped for processing to Zheleznogorsk located in the Krasnoyarsk Territory in Siberia. This information has been made public at a news conference held in the city of Krasnoyarsk. Environmentalists fear it may be nuclear waste of the American origin, according to Vsya Rossiya (All Russia) news agency. Earlier, the US shipped nuclear waste to Taiwan, South Korea, and a number of other countries. The Americans themselves opportunely became aware of the danger nuclear waste may present and adopted a law forbidding its export to their territory. Zheleznovodsk is very likely to see a sweeping popular protest in this connection.
