Bashir Kodzoyev, a State Duma deputy (the Yedinstovo faction), was shot and seriously wounded yesterday by an unidentified sniper. Mr. Kodzoyev's car came under fire as he was walking out of one of the buildings in the centre of Moscow accompanied by his bodyguard. The latter was killed. The Moscow Prosecutor's Office has launched legal proceedings on murder suspicions in the wake of an attack, Moscow Prosecutor Mikhail Avdyukov has told RIA Novosti. Before being elected to the State Duma, or the lower house of Russia’s parliament, Mr. Kodzoyev was deputy director of the Irkutsk Ceramics Factory Co. in Siberia. He is a member of the pro-Kremlin Yedinstvo (Unity) party and second in charge of the Duma committee for the affairs of Russia's northern and far-eastern territories.
