There is evidence that Buddha statues in Afghanistan are destroyed

Evidence, that the Taleban has destroyed Buddha statues, cut in the rock in Afghanistan province Bamian, appeared in press. On Tuesday CNN published a picture, taken by an Afghan photographer at the moment of the blast of the rock. The fact of the destruction of the statues was confirmed by a spokesman for UN. The Taleban had made a decision to destroy two unique statues 53 and 34,5 metres in height. Their age is more than 1,5 thousand years. The formal reason of the destruction of the statues is that they do not correspond Islam canons. Representatives of many confessions, including Islam, claimed against the destruction of the relics, but the Taleban refused to listen to the community. The head of UNESCO Koitoro Matsuura condemned the Taleban’s acts by saying that his organisation will proceed with doing its best to save other relics at the territory of Afghanistan.
