Unidentified gunmen fired on the town prosecutor's car in the Chechen town of Argun (10 kilometers east of Grozny) the evening on February 14. The first deputy chief of the Chechen Interior Department, Col. Sultan Satuyev has said the prosecutor's automobile was shot at from a white Zhiguli model 9 car at the junction of Guderemesskaya and Sakhzavodskaya Streets. Two girls in the car were killed outright. The badly wounded driver Aslanbek Temirov was rushed to the local hospital, where he later died without regaining consciousness, Intarfax reports. The prosecutor was not in the vehicle at the time of the attack.
