At today's session the State Duma of the Russian Federation turned down a draft resolution "On the detention of Pavel Borodin in the United States of America," introduced by the deputy from the Liberal Democratic Party of the Russian Federation (LDPR) faction Aleksey Mitrofanov. The draft stipulated recommendations for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation "to intensify efforts on the liberation of Pavel Borodin and his return to Russia." "Detention of a state official, protected by diplomatic immunity, creates a precedent when any official from any country could be detained in the other country upon request from the third country," the draft resolution said. However, most deputies of the State Duma disagreed with this document saying that such resolution would mean the Duma's interference in activities of law enforcement agencies and courts, RBC announces. As a result only 10 deputies voted for the draft resolution.
