The Australian government and the ruling Liberal Party had their reputation tarnished last Monday when Mr. Mal Brough resigned from his nomination as employment services mister over the issue of an electoral rort in Queensland. Mr. Brough selected to resign just hours before being sworn in when Australian media disclosed electoral irregularities involving his former staff members. Allegedly, his supporters registered as voters in the electoral seat of Longman without actually living there. The bogus registration enabled them to cast their votes for Mr. Brough in an area of great significance for the Liberal Party. Mr. Brough publicly denied any involvement in the affair or knowledge of it.
