Coast guard vessels and navy helicopters searched Sunday for five people missing after an ambulance helicopter crashed during a powerful storm in southern Greece. The storm was blamed for the deaths of 10 people elsewhere in the country. The helicopter went down into rough seas near Cape Sounion, 45 miles southeast of Athens, while transporting a heart patient to the capital. Strong gales and torrential rain created havoc in several parts of the country, causing power disruptions in Athens and flooding hundreds of homes in other cities and towns. Eight people were killed in traffic accidents blamed on the bad weather which seriously disrupted air transport, including services at Athens International Airport. On the western island of Zakynthos, an 8-year-old girl was missing after falling into the sea. The girl's mother and uncle drowned while trying to save her, authorities are cited as saying by Associated Press.
