Sergey Yastrzhembskiy comments Maskhadov’s suggestion

Today “The Moscow news” published a statement made by Chechen “President” Aslan Maskhadov, calling to peace negotiations with Russia authorities without any prior conditions, in conformity with PACE resolution: to stop the operations immediately and start negotiations without prior-conditions. Russia Presidential assistant Sergey Yastrzhembskiy commenting this suggestion said that it was not new. “Making this so-called suggestion Maskhadov repeats his well-known position. He does not understand that his state and attitude of the federal authorities toward him changed a lot since 1996”- said the Presidential assistant, cited by “Interfax”. Yastrzhembsky remarked that the federal centre was not going to make the same mistake that it had made in Khasaviurt in 1996. “If Maskhadov cares about the Chechen people fate so much, he should think a little and stop the useless resistance”.
