Fired man blew up his employer in Ukraine

An explosion sounded at a market in the Ukrainian city of Nikopol yesterday. A 55-year-old man who had been fired on grounds of his hard drinking threw a RGD-5 hand grenade into a trading pavilion. It was a sort of revenge against his former employers. The grenade hit the pavilion’s wall, but failed to get inside. Only by a fluke, numerous victims were avoided in the accident. Still, over ten people were wounded in the explosion. One man with an eye injury was taken to a hospital in Dnepropetrovsk; two wounded are in the surgery ward in Nikopol’s municipal hospital.

The police arrested the terrorist in 1.5 hours after the explosion. It turned out that the man already had previous convictions. His connection with other crimes is to be identified; it is not clear yet where the man got the grenade from. The act of terrorism at the market may entail a 10-15 year imprisonment (item “premeditated attempts upon lives of two and more people”).
