Lennox Lewis’s and Mike Tyson's spokespeople agreed on the venue and time of the fight. American Tyson will try to win Briton Lewis’s title of the absolute world champion (pursuant to the version of the World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation).
The fight will take place on June 8 in Memphis, Tennessee, at the 20,000-seater Pyramid Arena. This historical fight is expected to become the most expensive fight in the world of box.
BBC reported, the fight became possible to hold after Showtime network guaranteed the fee of $12.5 million to the administration of Pyramid Arena. This was the reason why the Lewis-Tyson fight was delayed several times before. A lot of people thought that the fight would never take place at all. The Nevada State Athletic Commission refused to grant Tyson a licence, with reference to his behavior on the ring and doubtful achievements in his life. The situation was similar in other states too: after Tyson was granted a licence, there was a refusal. Other countries were also offering their services: Denmark, South Korea, Bahamas, but the fight did not take place either way.
Lewis says that he is sure he will beat Tyson, Tyson says he will knockout Lewis and gets the title of world champion back. Nothing is discussed about the joint press-conference yet. The meeting, which was supposed to take place on April 6, failed because of the fight that was arranged by Tyson, who got really furious at the conference.
The fee of each of the fighters will make up from 12.5 to 17.5 million dollars, the money talks are about to be over. Lewis is supposed to confirm his wish to fight with Tyson on June 8 with a written statement – this was the request from Tyson’s representatives.
On the whole, the audience will see the greatest fight of the century soon, and the guys are not likely to disappoint their fans. Let’s just hope that there will be no ears bitten off. Lewis had 39 victories in 42 fights during his boxing career (30 knockouts), whereas Tyson has 49 victories out of 54 fights (43 knockouts).
