Government forces have killed 61 Maoist rebels in an attack on a guerrilla training camp in the north-east of Nepal.
Official sources claim that hundreds of guerrillas were injured in one of the government’s most successful attacks in recent weeks. Nepalese Interior Minister Raj Kendel said that the operation took place in the province of Rolpa.
The current state of emergency gives special powers to the security forces to operate against the rebels, who follow the same ideological path of Peruvian group Sendero Luminoso, based on Maoist principles.
