PRAVDA.Ru wrote yesterday that two main candidacies for the right to broadcast on the sixth channel of the Russian television - the companies Sixth Channel and Media-Sotsium (a non-commercial partnership) – were conducting negotiations about the possible amalgamation in their struggle for the license.
As the press-service of the Ministry for Press informed, the company Sixth Channel submitted an application to the ministry about their refusal to participate in the competition. So the company, which was set up by TV6 Ltd and a group of the Russian businessmen, is now included in the structure of the non-commercial Media-Sotsium partnership, which was established by the union of industrialists and entrepreneurs (Arkady Volsky) and by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Russia (Yevgeny Primakov).
Yevgeny Kiselev, the editor-in-chief of the Sixth Channel said that after the Sixth Channel is incorporated into Media-Sotsium, this partnership would participate in the contest with the broadcasting conception that was originally set forth by Kiselev’s team. In other words, the viewers will be watching the same programs, which stopped being broadcast on January 21. The entire personnel of journalists of the former TV6 channel was included in the structure of the non-commercial partnership as well.
According to the results of the poll, which was carried out in 33 regions of the country during the period of February 22-26, only 18% of the Russian people agree that TV6 channel should remain of the public and political character, with the journalists of Kiselev’s team. Eleven percent of the respondents said that they would like the channel to keep it previous profile, but with another team. Fifteen percent of the people said that they would like the new channel become an entertainment one, 13% stand for the sports channel, and four percent of the respondents believe that the sixth channel should broadcast religious programs. Thirty-two percent of the respondents said that they did not care about the issue at all.
As far as the sports channel is concerned, the majority of the Russian people, who took part in other polls said that they liked that idea most. The people are tired of politics, especially of how the mass media was offering it, so they were watching the Olympic Games in Salt Lake with pleasure. However, it seems that the public opinion, which is contradictory to the opinion of the government, will be ignored, as usual.
