Among that ones who signed the address there are ex-Justice Minister and today’s leader of Regulations Committee of Parliament Assembly of European Council, Sergei Golovaty, ex-Public Prosecutor General Viktor Shishkin, famous soviet dissident Levko Lukyanenko, lawyer Alexandr Zhir, deputies of the Supreme Rada Sergei Pravdenko, Vladimir Nechiporuk and others. According to the address, on February 7, in Washington results of technical examination of audio records of the talks in the President’s office were promulgated: the question is about the President and his administration’s implication in journalist Georgy Gongadze’s disappearance. The examination was carried out by Bek Tek firm according to the request of the parliament investigation commission. The firm has a good reputation, and that was Bek Tek which made conclusions on Watergate case and other resonance cases. The experts’ conclusion is that the records in Kuchma’s office are authentic. “This means that the supreme leadership of the country is directly implicated in the criminal case as the crime’s executors and masterminds. There are also reasons to regard as authentic records concerning organization of attempt on deputy Alexandr Yelyashkevich’s life, corruption, bribery, plundering, falsification of the presidential election’s results and other criminal actions of the Ukrainian authorities,” – the authors of the address notice. “Taking into account unlawfulness of the Ukrainian supreme functionaries’ activities that do not correspond with basic norms of democracy and human rights, we hope for an adequate reaction from your side,” – the authors of the document write. “In particular, we suppose that leaders of governments and of parliaments should isolate themselves from President Leonid Kuchma to avoid discrediting themselves before their citizens and before world community through contacts with the person that must account for his activities,” – the leaders of the opposition write.
