For the first time in the V Republic of France, a Member of Parliament has been tried, found guilty and sentenced by the Supreme Court of Justice to five years of imprisonment, three in jail and 2 suspended.
However, Marc Dumoulin, who was sentenced for the rape of his 12-year-old niece in April 1985, walked from the Strasbourg Palace of Justice a free man because his defence lawyers invoked parliamentary immunity.
