International Conference On Restricting Spread Of HIV Infection Held In St. Petersburg

An international conference "Complex approach to restricting the spread of HIV infection" opened in St. Petersburg on Friday. RIA Novosti learned from its organizers that the main aim of the scientific forum is to mobilize and rally national efforts to struggle against the virus that leads to a lowering of the human immunity. Taking part in the conference are experts from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Germany. In the focus of attention of the conference will be problems of the early detection of HIV-infected people. The German experts will present a new express-diagnosis method that requires neither costly equipment nor any special laboratory conditions and lowers the risk of infecting the medical personnel when working with infected blood. The conference participants will discuss the further development of the system of informing the population of problems of the prevention of HIV infection. The conference participants will discuss the HIV-1 and HIV-2 complex express-diagnosis programme, as well as the proposal to create a coordinating centre for carrying out that programme.
