Moscow will unambiguously oppose all attempts to transform the today's battle with terrorism into "a conflict of civilizations," said the Russian Foreign Ministry Tuesday. The ministry stated that such attempts "suit Osama bin Laden, who is trying to present actions of the anti-terrorist coalition as targeted against Islam." For Russia, a multiconfessional country, such an interpretation is absolutely inappropriate. Russia is convinced that Islam, like other world religions, has nothing to do with terrorism. Fight should be directed only against terrorism, which has no national or religious face, the Foreign Ministry stressed.
