A meeting of the Energy Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which took place in Kiev Friday, re-elected Anatoly Chubais, board chairman of Unified Energy Systems Co., Russia's electricity giant, President of this inter-state body. Taking part in the Kiev meeting were the heads of the energy sectors of Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrghyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine. Dominating the meeting were issues related to tariff policies and problems in coordinating operation of the power systems throughout autumn-winter. The conferees pointed to the fact that the power systems of all the CIS member countries, but Armenia, are operating in a parallel mode.
