Russian vice premier Viktor Khristenko is sure that the anti-terrorist operation which has begun in Afghanistan, will have an effect on world markets, including the oil market. However, he considers forecasting the situation inexpedient now. At the same time, answering the question of RIA Novosti on Monday, the vice-premier noted that "the level of tension demands a constant monitoring of the situation on the markets". The number of simultaneously operating factors that are influencing the situation is big enough and they are operating in various directions, he explained. He recalled the decisions adopted by G8 finance ministers to stop the financing of terrorist organizations. In his opinion, this will have a positive effect on the situation on the markets. At the same time, noted Khristenko, the operation which has begun in Afghanistan has already been called by the US and British authorities a long-term one "and one may expect counteraction" on the part of terrorists , which would also have an effect on the situation on world markets.
