Tehran Ready To Develop Military Cooperation With Moscow

Theran is ready to cooperate with Moscow in the military sphere under the most advantageous terms, Radzhab Safarov, Director of the Coordination Center of the Russian-Iranian programs said Thursday. By his estimation, Russia may receive 7 billion dollars at the minimum as a result of cooperation with Iran. According to the director of the Center, Iran assigns priority to quality improvement of weapons and security problem. Now the Islamic republic badly needs modernizing its military arsenal. Safarov believes expanding military and technical cooperation with Russia, Iran solves several security problems: firstly, to consolidate border with Afghanistan to stop drug trafficking and illegal entry of weapons; secondly, to provide security of important objects within the country and to counter high-precision weapons. Thirdly, Tehran needs to carry out a dialogue with several countries of the region as an equal. Fourthly, the Islamic republic aspires to the leading role in the region.
