Russian Premier Mikhail Kasyanov believes that the construction of a rail link from the Khabarovsk region to the island of Sakhalin (Russia's Far East) is necessary. He made this statement on Thursday opening a Cabinet session the agenda of which, in particular, includes the discussion of the Railways Minister's report on the possibility of constructing such a bridge. Kasyanov stated that the aforementioned project was one of the first large-scale industrial projects in the country. He stressed that goods flow from Sakhalin to the mainland was increasing. Besides, the so-called East-West transport line is currently under construction in Russia and there is a possibility to extend it to Sakhalin.
