The situation around Afghanistan has prompted Russia to contemplate the launch of reconnaissance satellites, Space Forces Commander Colonel General Anatoly Perminov announced at a press conference. According to the general, the Russian orbital group has very few reconnaissance satellites in space. Earlier however, no launches were planned since "the reconnaissance satellites we have in space supplied us with all the information we needed." Yesterday, Perminov and a group of officials from the Russian Aerospace Agency returned from Samara after negotiating issues related to reconnaissance spacecraft assembly. Results of the talks were reported to the General Staff, which the general believes will soon step up the rate of satellite production. He also added that the USA is constantly collecting intelligence above the territory of Afghanistan and neighbouring states with the help of its orbital space vehicles.
