Russian Deputy Says Georgia Cannot Resolve Domestic Crisis Without Settling Relations With Russia

The political crisis in Georgia can hardly be resolved, if this country does not settle its relations with Russia, said Friday Vasily Iver, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma (Russian parliament's lower house) International Committee. According to him, there are chances to normalise the Russian-Georgian relations, since they "were spoiled on the international level only, while our peoples have always had normal relationships." The deputy said, while answering RIA Novosti's question about possible developments in Georgia, that "the situation is unpredictable", since it was only several days before that Georgian parliamentarians "assured everybody that domestic situation was stable."
