Scientists from Russia, the USA, Yugoslavia, Estonia and Italy are taking part in the second international symposium The Evolution of Terrestrial Life which opened at the Tomsk State University (Western Siberia) on Monday. The famous US paleontologist, Professor Arthur Bucko from the University of the state of Origon, is a co-chairman of the symposium. The symposium is being held with the support of Russia's Ministries of Education and of Natural Resources, the Russian Fundamental Research Fund and the Natural Resources Committee of the Tomsk region. The subjects of reports and discussions feature the organic world of marine Phanerozoic, vertebrates of Mesozoic and Cenozoic, the evolution of ecosystems and ancient man; the genetic and molecular bases of evolution; the flora and palaeolandscapes of Phanerozoic.
