Audit Chamber Head Criticises Government For Being Passive In Combating Corruption

The government of Russia "as a body of power" often avoids considering materials on financial abuses submitted by the Audit Chamber, Sergei Stepashin, chairman of the Audit Chamber, stated Wednesday at the meeting of Federation Council (upper parliamentary house) members. According to him, the Audit Chamber is preparing an injunction on non-fulfilment by the government of the Russian Federation legislation in part of materials and proposals of the Audit Chamber. He explained that out of 36 submissions to the government replies were received only on three of them. "At the nearest collegium of the Audit Chamber we will have to return to tougher scheme of cooperation in this sphere," Sergei Stepashin emphasised.
