The government of Malaysia deported today 2,500 Indonesian nationals found to be working illegally in the country. The group boarded an Indonesian Navy ship to travel home under a military escort. Another similar operation involving some 700 foreign nationals is expected later this week.
Up to 1,000,000 foreign workers are currently employed in Malaysia. The crackdown against undocumented foreigners has been undertaken to free more jobs for Malaysians.
