There have been various references to Iraq by US officials in recent days, indicating the possibility that this country will be next in line for an attack after Afghanistan.
After Condoleeza Rice last week spoke of the threat to national security posed by Iraq, John Bolton, Under Secretary of State for arms control, declared yesterday, “After Al-Qaeda, Iraq constitutes the most serious threat” to international security.
The USA has named six countries on a black list for producing what it considers as “weapons of mass destruction”. These countries are Iraq, North Korea, Iran, Libya, Syria and the Sudan.
The USA has made it clear that the campaign in Afghanistan is only the beginning of a long campaign against terror and there is a strong possibility that the conflict could move outside the current theatre of war if these countries do not adhere to United Nations inspections.
