Report On Arab Terrorist Hattab Moving From Chechnya To Afghanistan Called Canard

The law-enforcement organs of Russia and Azerbaijan reject the report of the British newspaper The Independent that Arab terrorist Hattab has arrived from Chechnya to Afghanistan to be in charge of the Taliban defense in Kunduz. The daily also writes that Hattab allegedly arrived via Azerbaijan and Pakistan. A source in the government of the Chechen republic called these reports "light-minded". "From the viewpoint of a military it would be unthoughtful to guide the defense in an alien country without knowing the location of means and forces", said the source. And added that Hattab is only capable of committing "bandit sallies and terrorist acts" and called these media reports a canard. Azerbaijan's law-enforcement agencies declared that the reports on air lifting the Arab terrorist from Chechnya to Afghanistan via the territory of Azerbaijan "are not true to fact". The security service of the Baku airport Bina assured that the measures taken after the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States "rule out in principle" the possibility of Hattab being able freely to fly from Baku to Pakistan and then Afghanistan. In addition, Azerbaijan has no direct air communication with cities in Pakistan, said the Azeri airport.
