Russia Proposes To Make Statement On Afghanistan

The Russian side has proposed to make a Statement of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries on Afghanistan, experts from the group which prepared the analytical report "Results of the CIS 10-Years' Activity and Long-Term Tasks" for the anniversary CIS summit told RIA Novosti. The document's draft expresses support of the Afghan political settlement under the UN auspices, in accordance with the UN Security Council's Resolution No. 1378. It also stresses the need to establish a multi-ethnic and widely representative government in Afghanistan and confirms the CIS firm intention to contribute to the creation of a global anti-terrorist system and to cooperate with all interested countries and international organisations with the UNO and the UN Security Council playing the leading role.
