The total volume of ruble deposits with Russian banks reached 489.62bn rubles (about $16.25bn) as of November 1, 2001. The volume of deposits in foreign currencies was equivalent to 456.63bn rubles, or about $15.15bn, the department for external and public relations of the Russian Central Bank reported. The majority of ruble assets in banks were deposited by individuals - 85 per cent, or 416.44bn rubles ($13.82bn). 70.63bn rubles, or $2.34bn (14.4 per cent) were deposited by enterprises and organizations and 2.55bn rubles, or $85m (0.6 per cent) - by banks. Individuals also made up the majority of foreign currency depositors. They deposited $7.69bn, or 46.8 per cent with Russian banks. The share of enterprises and organizations was 46 per cent with $7.28bn and that of banks was 7.2 per cent with $1.09bn.
