"Stechkin special revolver" - such is the name of the last invention of well-known Russian arms designer Igor Stechkin. It was designed on the production base of the Tula weapon-makers (Tula is a regional centre located three hours drive from Moscow). Stechkin died two months ago. During the last years of his life the weapon-maker worked to design a new-generation revolver. He made, in effect, the bulk of the design work on the new weapon. During the last days of his life when the designer did not get up from his bed his talented student Ivan Dokukin, a student of Tula state university, brought the drawings to his home. But the design of the revolver was finalized already without its author. The revolver has now been accepted for production and named "Stechkin special revolver". It is a weapon to be used in the course of special operations. The revolver stands out for its high reliability, simple design and a number of other assets. Igor Stechkin is the designer of 60 weapons and the author of more than 50 inventions. He participated in designing the Fagot and Konkours anti-tank missiles. The list of the weapons designed by him includes, in particular, the Modern submachine-gun, the Abakan enhanced-efficiency submachine-gun and the Kobalt revolver. The famous Stechkin automatic pistol, APS, was adopted for service 50 years ago and is still in demand.
