The consumer price index went up 0.6 per cent in Russia in the first eight days of January 2002, the State Statistics Committee reported. The average daily increase in prices was 0.07 per cent in this period as compared to a 0.051 per cent daily rise in December 2001. At the same time, a rise in the consumer price index was lower at the beginning of 2002 than in January last year. Meanwhile, the government set inflation for 2002 at 12 per cent. As reported earlier, a rise in the consumer price index made up 18.6 per cent in Russia in 2001.
