President Putin To Examine Several Facilities In Leningrad Region

Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in the commissioning of the first stage of the Ust-Luga sea port and in the opening of the Primorsk trade sea port in the North-West of the Leningrad region. Alexey Gromov, the press secretary of the Russian President, disclosed this information. The President will examine oil terminal and tanks, the control unit of the loading tip and the vessel traffic control system near the Primorsk port. Vladimir Putin is also expected to take part in other activities. Viktor Khristenko, the Russian Vice-Premier, and Sergei Frank, the Russian Transport Minister, will accompany the Russian leader during the trip. The Ust-Luga commercial sea port is situated in the Luga bay of the Gulf of Finland. The project to build the port with a 35-million cargo turn-over, envisages the construction of a number of terminals, such as coal, wood, container and fertilizer terminals, as well as terminals for general and bulk cargo. In addition, it has been planned to establish a ferry boat communication in order to transport vehicles and trains from the Russian ports of Ust-Luga and Baltiisk to German sea ports. The Primorsk oil port is the terminal junction of the Baltic pipeline system specially designed to export Russian crude oil produced in Northern and Western Siberia. The carrying capacity of the port will be 30 mln. tons.
