Russian Port Vanino Turns Into A Large Economic And Industrial Center On Pacific Coast

Russia's Far Eastern port of Vanino is gradually turning into a large economic and industrial center on the Pacific coast. On Thursday, the port purchased its third powerful modern crane from the German company Liebherr, said Bogdan Musyanovich, the head of the Vanino district administration. According to Musyanovich, the German company is planning to set up a Far Eastern service center in Vanino to provide technical servicing for its equipment. Apart from that, Vanino is equipped with a refrigerator that holds up to 5,000 tons of seafood and houses a joint Russian-Japanese lumber company called Vanino-Tairiku. In the next few days, the port will phase in the first unit of an oil-processing enterprise with an output capacity of 500,000 tons a year. The oil produced here will go to remote districts of the Russian Far East and neighbouring countries. The port has a system of cargo and passenger ferries that deliver trains loaded with heavy haulers and technical equipment to Sakhalin and back. Once a month, a ferry runs to Hokkaido.
