The heads of regional branches of the Federal Security Service (FSB) are currently meeting in the town of Sarov to discuss how to ensure the security of defence industry and nuclear facilities in the Volga federal district. FSB Director Nikolai Patrushev is chairing the meeting, which is also being attended by presidential envoy to the Volga district, Sergei Kiriyenko. While talking to a RIA Novosti correspondent, Nikolai Patrushev pointed to the issue's urgency, as international terrorist organisations have shown a great interest in obtaining nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. Patrushev said that exercises had been held at a series of nuclear and defence industry sites. He reported that they had shown that FSB officers were well prepared, although he added, "nevertheless, we should not lose our vigilance."
