The Prosecutor's Office of Novosibirsk, Western Siberia has opened a criminal case against unknown hooligans who planted an explosive device by the entrance to the German consulate on Wednesday evening. Police found the booby-trapped grenade on the stairs leading to the entrance of the consulate, which is situated in the center of the city, reported an officer on duty at the Krasnoyarsk-based Siberian Regional Center of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. On closer examination however, the grenade turned out to be a dummy, which naturally could not have set off an explosion. Yury Kondratyev, the prosecutor of Novosibirsk's Central District, thinks this might be a case of hooliganism, probably a politically motivated one. Law enforcers are investigating the incident.
