A polar bear came to the centre of the administrative centre of Chukotka, Anadyr, officials of the main directorate of civil defence and emergency situations of the Chukot Autonomous Area said on Tuesday.
Civil defence and emergency situations personnel, as well as a representative of the hunting inspection immediately came to the scene. An off-road vehicle was used for driving the beast away to his habitat - the bear got afraid and escaped from the city.
It is not the first time that polar bears near the populated areas of Chukotka in 2003. According to the information of the Chukot branch of the Pacific scientific-research institute of fishery and oceanography, this is caused by the fact that during last summer ice was far from the shore, and it was difficult for bears to hunt. That is why they come to settlements in search of food.
