An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 at a depth of 12 kilometres has occurred near the Kamchatka coast 150 kilometres east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
As staffers of the Kamchatka experimental-methodological seismological party said, the seismic event was registered at 21:37 Moscow time. In Petropavlovsk itself, tremors with a magnitude of 2 on the Richter scale could be felt.
All in all, more than 100 underground tremors of different magnitude occurred in that area over the past 48 hours.
The major seismic event was registered on March 16. Its magnitude was 6.4. Tremors with a magnitude of 2-3 on the Richter scale took place in the Regional centre.
The earthquake is now continuing.
