UNESCO Helping Russia Implement Education Projects in Chechnya

Implementation of 18 projects aimed at supporting education has begun in Chechnya. This was announced today at a press conference by Russian Education Minister Vladimir Filippov. According to Filippov, the projects were prepared over the last year by the Education Ministry, UNESCO representatives and the Chechen Republic's Education Department. These agencies are working together to attract international funds.

Filippov said that an agreement between Russia and UNESCO on implementing these 18 projects over the next few years was signed on March 14. The first three projects, costing USD 170 thousand, are already being implemented. These are feeding primary school children, acquiring course books, and providing psychological and educational rehabilitation to children in Chechnya. The rest of the projects are planned to be implemented over the next three years.
