Head of Chechnya Administration Welcomes Russian President Address to Republic's Population

Head of Chechnya administration Akhmad Kadyrov welcomed the address by Russian President Vladimir Putin to the republic's residents in connection with the referendum to be held there on March 23rd. The predominant part of Chechnya's population "cheered up", because Putin's address "inspires faith and hope for the future in the Chechen people," Kadyrov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Vladimir Putin's address was broadcast on the Chechen TV on Sunday. He called on the republic's population to participate in a referendum on the Chechnya constitution. The president said that that a special treaty would be signed to envisage Chechnya's broad autonomy within the Russian Federation.

Kadyrov believes that Putin's address will help achieve peace and accord in Chechnya as soon as possible.

According to the head of Chechnya administration, Putin's address was received with great interest in the republic and is being actively discussed "at all levels".
