Russian State Duma Speaker: Djindjic Murder is Political

The Speaker of the Russian State Duma, Gennady Seleznev, believes that the murder of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic is "purely political." "I think it was a contract murder and well prepared," the chairman of the lower house of the Russian parliament told reporters.

On Wednesday, an attempt on the life of the head of the Serbian government was made in Belgrade as a result of which he was gravely wounded and later died in hospital.

According to the Russian Speaker, he thinks that any allegations that Zoran Djindjic had contacts with business are absolutely groundless.

Gennady Seleznev has supported the decision of the Serbian authorities to declare a state of emergency in the country and called upon them to do everything possible to find the murderers.

The Chairman of the Russian State Duma expressed condolences to the relatives of the Serbian Prime Minister.
