Russian automobile producers manufactured 71,565 automobiles in January 2003, which was 23.5 percent lower than in January 2002, Avtoselkhozmash-holding said in its report. In particular, in the reported period 12,610 trucks (a 1-percent growth compared to January 2002) and 53,408 cars (a 29.9 percent decrease) were produced.
As reported earlier, GAZ manufactured 6,970 trucks (-7.3 percent) in January 2003 and no cars. AvtoVAZ produced 37,609 automobiles (-31.7 percent), KamAZ 1,609 trucks (+38.1 percent) and 2,400 cars (-14.3 percent), ZIL 1,004 trucks (+1.2 percent).
