Car production drops in Russia

The production of cars amounted to 53,400 in January 2003, which was a 30-percent decrease compared to the corresponding period of last year, and a 5.9-percent drop compared to December 2002, the State Statistics Committee reported.

In January 2003, AvtoVAZ manufactured 37,705 automobiles (55,154 in January 2002), the Ulyanovsk automobile manufacturing plant (UAZ) produced 5,664 automobiles (a 3.4 decrease compared to the corresponding period of 2002). The Gorky automobile manufacturing plant (GAZ) produced 9,927 automobiles, including 2,957 minibuses.
